The SIM Information System – 668 – that has ‘shockingly’ woken up most cell phone users to the fact that the total number of connections issued against their CNICs with different mobile phone companies is much more than they actually had applied for, is in fact a result of ‘fake entries’ the franchises had made on the ‘direction’ of their operators.
PTA efforts to check illegal SIMs proving successful
The efforts made by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to solve the problem of incorrect data of mobile uses and unauthorized SIMs has brought fruitful results. The PTA Punjab Zone Director Kamran Khan Gandapur told media during his surprise visit to customers service centres (CSCs) of mobile phone operators including Mobilink, Warid, Telenor, Ufone and Zong here Saturday.
400,000 Irregular SIMs Blocked Under ‘668’
After seeking information through “SIM Information system 668” introduced by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), around 0.175million complainants i.e. 5.9 percent of total SMSs received at PTA’s System, have so far visited the Customer Service Centers (CSC) of concerned mobile operators for their SIM data correction. Simultaneously, more than 0.4 million illegal/irregular SIMs have been removed from the complainants’ CNICs after they provided undertaking, statement issued by PTA said.
