Nokia to Replace Symbian OS with Maemo
Nokia plans to deploy the Maemo OS software for future smartphones, replacing Symbian, according to the Financial Times Deutschland, citing sources close to the company. Maemo was developed for use in Nokia’s Internet Tablets, is licence free and the first Maemo-based smartphone will be launched within a couple of weeks. Nokia did not want to comment on the rumours. Nokia acquired Symbian in 2008 for EUR 264 million and moved the Symbian software into the Symbian Foundation in April this year.
