UN Delegates Visit NADRA HQ

Government of Pakistan has distributed Rs.28.6 billion among 1.483 million flood affected families through NADRA’s Watan Card, each card has Rs.20,000 cash assistance. Deputy Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik stated this while briefing the UN delegation headed by Margareta Wahlstrom, Special representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction who visited NADRA Headquarters today for briefing on Flood Relief System.

Agility to proceed to the international court for settlement of dues if Federal Board of Revenue/Government of Pakistan be unsuccessful to recommence negotiations communicated to them before February 28, 2011, it is learned from sources. The present and logical demand of Agility is that a firm commitment for recommencing of negotiations be communicated otherwise the PaCCS project will be closed down without further notice.

LHC Rejects Petition to Ban Wikileaks in Pakistan

Lahore High court has rejected the petition to block the access to wikileaks website. The petition was filed by Arif Gondal and it was heard in the respected court of Mr. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed. The court appeal mentioned that this website was leaking the secret information which could have a deteriorating effect on the foreign relations of Pakistan and in general could create chaos in the public. However, the court decided not to put a ban on the said website because according to the court decision wikileaks is operational in more than 170 countries and hence it is not possible to put a ban on its operations. Also court mentioned that was the applicant afraid of the truth coming out in public.

PTA Annual Report 2009-10

Keeping in view the vision of the present government of Pakistan, the Authority worked for the betterment of the people of nation at large and for national security. In addition to these efforts PTA kept on promoting local businesses, attract foreign investment and increase sector contribution in national exchequer. This year Authority decided to work on following four focus areas namely Consumer Protection, Promoting ICTs, Promoting Competition and Ensuring National Security in addition to routine regulatory activities.
