Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has promulgated new "Protection from Spam, Unsolicited, Fraudulent and Obnoxious Communication Regulations, 2009" to protect the consumer interests as mandated under the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re organization) Act 1996. According to PTA, the objective of these regulations is to protect telecom consumers from spam, fraudulent, unsolicited and obnoxious communications including calls and SMS. These regulations required all the telecom operators to set up standard operating procedures (SOPs) for controlling spam, fraudulent, unsolicited and obnoxious communications, in accordance with the given time frame.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and FIA National Response Center for Cyber Crimes (NR3C), Islamabad has unearthed two illegal international VoIP gateway exchanges in F-6 and F-7 sectors here. Three foreigners have been arrested during the seizure of these illegal exchanges. According to a press release issued here by PTA, this initiative is a part of the pursuance of PTA efforts against illegal telecom traffic and seventh successful raid in the Federal Capital. During the raid PTA and FIA team recovered 11x8 GSM cellulars, 4 GSM media gateways and 1x router, 4 switches and more than hundred GSM antennas.
