New Zealand's Commerce Commission has laid charges against Vodafone for alleged breaches of the Fair Trading Act 1986 in relation to various broadband and mobile phone promotions. The allegations cover a series of marketing promotions between October 2006 and February 2009. Companies found guilty of breaching provisions of the Fair Trading Act may be fined up to $200,000 for each charge.

The Internet users have reached nearly four million in the country amid slight growth witnessed in the base of Direct Subscriber Line (DSL) by the end of March 2009, said Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The latest statistics released by PTA reflected only two percent growth in DSL users during the January to March 2009 as compared with last quarter of the current fiscal year. The overall DSL subscriber stood at 272,626 in the country despite emergence of good number of operators in the sector. However, the dial-up connection growth remained stagnant at 3.7 million users, which has not shown any growth since July 2008.

This mobile broadband service allows Sonaecom to offer an improved user experience to customers with lower latency and much higher speed. Via 64 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) in the air interface, Sonaecom's HSPA+ network supports downlink data rate of up to 21.6 Mbps. "Due to Huawei's smooth introduction of HSPA+ on our existing network, the new technology can help us maintain our leading position in the Portuguese competitive market," said Mr. José Pinto Correia, CTO of Sonaecom. "This new technology will enable our customers to enjoy higher speed and higher quality mobile broadband services, while delivering more capacity to our network."
