iPhone 5 has been available since 21st September, it was a long awaited phone. iPhone 5 has got mixed reviews, few users feel that it is an excellent phone, but others feel that Samsung Galaxy S3(SGS3) outsmarts iPhone 5 in the market of smartphones. There was a little confusion, so we thought of comparing both the phones and conclude it ourselves.
Design:
Apple always emphasizes on improving the features, rather adding new features. The feature which strikes one, at the first glance of iPhone 5 is the bigger screen when compared to iPhone 4S. Another noticeable feature is the material of the back panel, the age old glass has been replaced with aluminum that gives it a glossy look.
When comes to dimension of iPhone & SGS3, iPhone 5 is 123.8 x 58.5 x 7.6mm and the weight is 112g. SGS3 is 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm and weighs 133g. Being light weighted and smaller in size, iPhone 5 is very handy and can be easily pocketed. However, SGS3 can be better called as a mini tablet instead of a smartphone.
Both the phones were put under many tests, and “drop test” was one among those. iPhone 5 & SGS3 were made to fall from various heights, it was noticed that iPhone 5 had no or few damages after being dropped from extreme heights, and this is because of its aluminum body. But SGS3 suffered more damages with low drop because of its glass body.
Screen:
For the first time in the history of iPhone since it was introduced, the size of the screen has been altered and it is done with iPhone 5, which has been increased from 3.5-inch to 4-inch screen. There is no change in the width, only it has become taller than its predecessor. However if you compare it with SGS3, it is shorter than SGS3 and the width is also less.
Although the screen of iPhone 5 is not as wide as SGS3, but the screen holds adequate icons. Also, you can fit few extra icons on the home screen. The pixel density of iPhone 5 is extremely high which gives its users, a sharper, clearer and brighter view than SGS3.
SGS3 excels in resolution, which is 720 x 1280 and the resolution of iPhone 5 is 640 x 1136. So, if your concern is quality viewing, then you should go for iPhone 5. If you are after size, then SGS3 is a better choice.
Camera:
You have a look at both the photos from SGS3 and iPhone 5, which will help you to decide which phone, has a better camera. However let us tell you the up-gradation made in iPhone 5, the front facing camera has been improved from VGA to 720 p.
Both SGS3 and iPhone 5 have 8 Megapixel cameras and can record full HD video of 1080p. The comparison in both the photos favors the one taken by iPhone 5.
Battery & Processor:
The processing speed of iPhone 5 is twice as that of its predecessor, as it uses the A6 processor. However, it is less compared to SGS3. iPhone 5 runs at 1.3 GHz whereas, SGS3 runs at 1.4 GHz with quad processor. This is the only test where SGS3 has beaten iPhone 5, but it doesn’t seem to be too effective.
Our Verdict:
iPhone 5 and SGS3 are two most consistent smartphones in the market. However iPhone 5 is our winner, it beats SGS3 in almost all the tests, except for the wider screen and faster processor.
