Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware update for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 is out now and you can flash it manually using the old familiar Odin method. We know well that many of you must be dying to get the latest update on your Galaxy Note 2. If you do not have patience enough to wait for the update till it hits your device, you can download the firmware from our links and flash it right away manually using Odin.

If you are new to this flashing stuff, you need not worry as we have a carefully written tutorial for you that will help you through it all. All you need is to follow the steps described below carefully and your device will be upgraded to Android 4.1.2.

Steps to Install Android 4.1.2 JB Firmware on Note 2:

Download the firmware N7100XXDLK7_N7100PRTDLK5_PRT.zip and extract the zip with a zip archiver. Inside the extracted folder, you will find N7100XXDLK7_N7100PRTDLK5_PRT_HOME.tar.md5 file.
Download Odin3_v3.04.zip and extract it to your desktop.
Download and install Samsung USB Drivers on your computer if you have not installed it yet.
Charge you Note 2 to 70% battery level at least.
Backup your contacts, call-logs, messages, APNs, bookmarks, calendar, apps & games using these nice free apps.
Turn on USB Debugging from Settings> Developer options
Turn off you phone and boot it into Download/Odin Mode: press and hold Volume Down and Home (center) keys simultaneously and then long press the Power key till you see a screen that prompts you to press the Volume Up key to continue.
Press the Volume Up key to enter the Download Mode.
Now open the Odin folder that you downloaded in Step 2 and run the .exe file present there.
When the Odin is launched, connect your Galaxy Note 2 to the computer via USB cable and wait till the ID:COM box at Odin turns light green. It shows that your device has been detected by the program.
Make sure that only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot boxes are checked on Odin. Do NOT check any other item.
Now click on the PDA button and select the N7100XXDLK7_N7100PRTDLK5_PRT_HOME.tar.md5 file.
Take a deep sigh and click on the Start button on Odin to start the installation. It might take about 5-8 minutes for the installation to finish.
Finally, you will get a PASS! message on the ID:COM box and then you device will reboot automatically.
Your device will reboot with the latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware installed on it. Cheers!
In case, you installed the latest stock firmware over a custom firmware, you might get a boot-loop. If it is the case with you, open the back cover of your Note 2 and pull out the battery. Wait from 10 seconds and reinsert it back to its place. Then press Volume Up+Home+Power keys to enter ASR (Android Stock Recovery) mode and wipe data/factory reset. Then reboot the device. Now it should reboot normally.
You have just installed the official Android 4.1.2 update to your Samsung Galaxy Note 2. All you can do now is to enjoy.

Then I decided to try another firmware in a hope that it might solve the problem. But again the same WiFi bug! With Android 4.1.1 on my Note 2, I was happier, so I downloaded the Android 4.1.1 firmware and flashed it.

How many of you ever wished to downgrade the firmware of your Android phone? Only a few. The present article is for those fews who are looking a way to go back to Gingerbread from Ice Cream Sandwich, to Ice Cream Sandwich from Jelly Bean, or from Android 4.1.2 to Android 4.1.1. The tips described below will also be helpful to even those who want to downgrade their Samsung Galaxy device to Gingerbread from Ice Cream Sandwich.

Disclaimer & Warning

Please note that the method described here has been tested (by me, more than once) on Galaxy S3 (Android 4.1.2 to ICS), Note 2 (Android 4.1.2 to 4.1.1) and Galaxy S2 (ICS to GB). I have not been able to test for downgrading to GB from JB. All the same, I would like to warn you that the procedure is considered risky. Proceed only if you understand the gravity of such things and make sure you are not drunk while following up the steps. We’ll not be responsible for any data loss or damage done to your device.

Downgrade to Gingerbread from ICS or JB

Those willing to downgrade their Galaxy device to Gingerbread from Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean should not follow the method given here unless you have the firmware files with Bootloader or PIT. In case you have a PIT file for your device model, select it while installing the firmware and do not forget to check “Re-Partition” on Odin. We warn you against proceeding with the single file installation method as described below.

However, if you are to downgrade to a lower version of Gingerbread from a higher version of GB ( from Android 2.3.7 to 2.3.3, for example), you can follow this tutorial.

Getting Prepared:

The firmware downgrade drill for the Samsung Galaxy devices is not much complicated as compared to the phones manufactured by other brands. It requires you to boot the device first into Download/Odin Mode, and then into Android Recovery Mode. I hope many of you would be acquainted with both the methods. Even if you are not, it doesn’t matter.

Download the downgrade firmware for your Samsung Galaxy device and extract it on your computer. A good source to download Samsung firmwares is Samsung-Updates. Type your device name in the search box at the sidebar, you would find it hopefully. If you do not get it, let me know (your device and country).
Download and install Samsung USB Drivers on your computer. Skip this step if you already have it.
Download Odin Firmware flasher and unzip it (if you get any error with Odin3 1.85, try the greater version): Odin3_v1.85.zip or Odin3_v3.04.zip
Since the downgrading procedure will delete all data stored on the internal SD Card of your Galaxy device it will be better to backup your messages, contacts and installed apps. These nice free apps will help you backup your data easily.
Charge your device’s battery to the full
Make sure that you have turned on USB Debugging from Settings> Developer Options>.

One of the most notable feature of Android 4.2 is the ability to put any of your widget straight to your phone’s lockscreen. While praised by many, a large number of people also hated the concept. This can be overcomed now. Thanks to XDA member chislon, an app was released to Google Play recently, named ‘Lockscreen Policy’. The app is designed to get you rid of the forementioned things in a flash. The app lets you disable the lockscreen widgets as well as the camera with just a couple of clicks. This app is totally free on Google Play.

However, there are some limitations to this app as well. This app cannot disable the stock clock widget on the lockscreen and the music widget will also show up when you are listening to music. Unfortunately this cannot be overcome due to the Android 4.2 API but those who has got the root access can eventually disable the stock clock widget as well. There is an option for that called Clock Hack since the update 1.2.

For those who want to get rid of their lockscreen’s widgets, Lockscreen Policy is your ticket!

Be noted that this app needs the device administrator permission in order to work. When you start the app for the first time, press Activate and on the device administrators window, press Activate again. Now you can slide widget and camera sliders to on or off.
