PTA Promulgates "Protection from Spam, Unsolicited, Fraudulent and Obnoxious Communication Regulations, 2009"
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has promulgated new “Protection from Spam, Unsolicited, Fraudulent and Obnoxious Communication Regulations, 2009″ to protect the consumer interests as mandated under the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re organization) Act 1996.
According to PTA, the objective of these regulations is to protect telecom consumers from spam, fraudulent, unsolicited and obnoxious communications including calls and SMS.
These regulations required all the telecom operators to set up standard operating procedures (SOPs) for controlling spam, fraudulent, unsolicited and obnoxious communications, in accordance with the given time frame.
PTCL Plans VFone Broadband in Remote Areas
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) in collaboration with the government under the Universal Service Fund (USF) project has planned to provide VFone and Broadband telecom services to the students and people of remote areas.
PTCL cable thief arrested
Karachi, Aug 12, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) – Frere Police arrested a thief, red-handed as he was stealing the underground wires of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), here on Tuesday. DSP Asghar Ali Shah said two thieves were trying to steal PTCL underground wires near the Hockey Stadium. He said the Frere police mobile during routine patrolling spotted and arrested one of them, later identified as Shehzad. His accomplice managed to flee. Police have registered a case against the accused on the complaint of a PTCL officer.
Sonaecom and Huawei Introduces Mobile Broadband 21.6 Mbps Speed Rate

Broadband subscribers grow 100pc
Pakistan Telecommunications Authority Chairman Dr Mohammad Yaseen has said broadband subscribers have increased 100 per cent in the last two years because of growing competition and better infrastructure. However, the sector’s application and content still require much progress.
