The new device HTC M7, is in the discussions and the news now a days. The sources are talking about the arrival of the device along with the provided specifications and features. The specification details are already out in the market but the sources were not sure about the releasing date as well as the price tag going to attach to the device. HTC Launches High End Phablets

There is a new name for a small hand held touchscreen device. It has been christened the Phablet and one of the specifications is that it needs to have a screen that is greater than 5 inches and not more than 7 inches. It is something of a cross between a smartphone and a small tablet with the option to use a stylus thrown in.

It is larger in size than a smartphone and much smaller than a regular tablet. The term has been coined from the two words phone and tablet, which explains a lot about this new entrant. HTC has come out with a sleek Phablet that has a glossy finish and a stylish look. Though the term Phablet is generic, the South Korean giant in electronics, LG tried to apply for a trademark and make the name their own. However, it is still kept in application stage and the term is used by all manufacturers for reference as in the case of smartphone.

Though the Taiwanese company, the makers of HTC has not come out with any official announcements about the debut of this new product, there is some information that is available on the web. The device has been christened with a code name DLX, probably meaning deluxe. There are some sneak peek pictures of the device that are available on the Internet that have fleeting images of it in black and red.

It will probably work on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 and a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro Central Processing Unit. It is believed that it will have a density of 480 pixels per inch and also boasts an HD screen that is 5 inches in size and with a resolution of 1920 X 1080. The impressive random access memory of 1.5 Gigabytes and a storage capacity of 16 Gigabytes complement the much talked about device. It sports a camera of 12 megapixels in the rear and another of 2 megapixels in the front. It also has a non-removable battery that can go on for days on a single charge.

Set to compete with heavyweights like Samsung Galaxy Note and Dell Streak this new entrant is creating waves in the market even before making a formal entry. It is expected to come to Verizon upon release just before the commencement of the holiday season. It could go under the name Droid Incredible X or DIX or DLX which could mean deluxe or whatever. Though this is pretty much uncharted territory, there are a couple of players already who are well established. Hence, it remains to be seen as to how the market will react to another entrant at this stage. However, the plus point for HTC is that they are well entrenched in the mobile phone market and has a brand name that is well established.

Though there is no information about the likely price structure, the pricing will be competitive and put the heat on the existing players in the market. The competition will turn out to be beneficial for the ultimate customers who will get the benefit.

The smartphone industry is no stranger to legal wranglings, with Apple and Samsung duking it out in the courts in a very high-profile battle over certain patent infringements.

Samsung has already been ordered to pay Apple more than $1 billion in damages after being found to infringe upon various Apple held patents, but that doesn’t seem to be enough as Apple is seeking to extort an additional $707 million from the Korean electronics giants. If recent reports are true, then it looks like Nokia and HTC could be heading for their own legal battle.

The information comes from a so-called previously reliable source who has knowledge of the impending court case and says that Nokia is about to launch some legal action against HTC over the look and design of their recently announced Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

Nokia and Microsoft have recently held a joint media event to announce the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 devices that will be powered by Windows Phone 8, with the 920 hopefully being the device that propels the Finnish handset maker back to the top of the smartphone charts.

HTC also held their own event in the last few days with Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer in attendance. The purpose of the event was to announce their own Windows Phone 8 handsets, the HTC 8X and 8S.

There is no denying that the newly announced HTC devices look extremely attractive, but you would laugh out of the office for claiming that the 8X has more than a passing resemblance to the Nokia Lumia 820. Much to the possible detriment of HTC, it looks like the similarities haven’t gone unnoticed by Nokia.

The source in question is stating that Nokia is preparing their case in an attempt to try and get the HTC 8X banned from sale in certain territories. The device in question isn’t due to go on sale until November, but if Nokia gets their way, then that won’t happen, at least in the parts of the world that their design patents are enforceable.

With both sets of devices scheduled to hit the market in November after Windows Phone 8 has officially launched, it’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out and if the legal action actually comes to fruition.Similar Posts:

HTC Considering Buying Its Own OS

A new report from by Focus Taiwan states that, HTC is considering buying its own OS. HTC Chairwoman, Cher Wang confirmed that the company is in the process of thinking about buying its own mobile operating system.

Cher Wang said that:

We can use any OS we want. We are able to make things different from our rivals on the second or third layer of a platform. Our strength lies in understanding an OS, but it does not mean that we have to produce an OS.

At first, HP’s dying WebOS comes into mind, but despite of an expected sale of WebOS possible these days, we don’t think HTC would be the one buying it. Though, this sale will turn the mobile world upside down. If you are aware about the HTC Sense user interface, then you may know that it is a compatibility layer which can easily hide the inside operating system from the user. So, in this case, when HTC is officially mentioning of buying its own mobile OS, we don’t take it as a notion to go for a non-Google software, well, at least not for now.

As you know, currently, many major HTC smartphones selling in the markets run on Android operating systems. And on the other hand, its not a bad thing for HTC to consider alternative solutions for the future. Recently, HTC sued Apple on the bases of patents obtained by Google from its Motorola acquisition. HTC gained some leverage in this case with Apple but if Apple wins the litigation, then HTC will have some serious problems like hurt profits and slim margins in the company’s Android strategy.

HTC Files Another Lawsuit Against Apple on Patents Aquired From Google

Bloomberg reports on an interesting twist in the ever growing patent dispute between Apple and handset manufacturers to support Google’s Android operating system. According to the report, HTC today filed a new patent lawsuit against Apple and amended a previous complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), citing nine patents previously owned by Google and HTC is assigned to just last week.

The four patents cited in the new trial was originally owned by Motorola, but apparently passed to Google sometime in the last year before being transferred to HTC. Google is obviously currently an attempt to Motorola Mobility in an attempt to acquire a hardware component to be added to the existing software program in the competitive market for smartphones.

The other five patents added to the prior ITC complaint arose at Palm and Openwave Systems before being acquired by Google. Google then transferred those patents last week to HTC.

The nine patents originated with Palm Inc., Motorola Inc. and Openwave Systems Inc., with Google taking ownership within the past year, according to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office records. Mountain View, California-based Google recorded transfer of the patents to HTC on Sept. 1, according to the agency’s website.

HTC sued Apple today in federal court in Delaware, claiming infringement of four of those patents that originally were issued to Motorola. Taoyuan, Taiwan-based HTC also amended a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington, alleging infringement of three patents first issued to Openwave and two others originally owned by Palm.

Apple of course filed a lawsuits and ITC complaints against a number of Android handset manufacturers, many of revenge with their own lawsuits. But Google has been in direct combat, although it will be noted that its hardware partners to support their disputes. This direct transfer of patents to Google from HTC provide HTC an additional ammunition in the battle against Apple seems the clearest evidence yet of that effort.

iPhone 4 Still The Top Selling Smartphone In US

An analytical firm, Canaccord Genuity revealed a report today; this report was written by an analyst, T. Michael Walkley. According to this report, a note was written to the investors by the US carriers which stated that iPhone 4 is still on top of the sales of the smartphones. We all know at iPhone 5 is going to be launched soon and iPhone 4 is now more than a year old but despite of all these facts sales of iPhone 4 are not affected a little.

According to Micheal Walkley, their checks at the carriers showed that iPhone 4 is still the top selling smartphone for its carriers AT&T and Verizon, despite the unlimited anticipations increasing everyday for the iPhone 5 in the markets.

He added that now we know that iPhone 5 will be launched by all major US carriers including Sprint, so, it is strongly anticipated that iPhone 5 sales will be strong during the holiday season and it will have a strong global launch too.

According to the Walkley’s research, iPhone 4 was the top selling handset at both major US carriers AT&T and Verizon in last month (August). AT&T’s second largest selling handset was $50 entry level $50 iPhone 3GS in August. Verizon does not have the distribution rights of selling iPhone 3GS.

Both iPhones; iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS beat out the Samsung’s smartphone; Infuse 4G which costs $200 and became the third best selling phone at AT&T. Well, in the case of Verizon, the second best selling handset was Samsung Charge 4G while the HTC Thunderbolt 4G came in third.

According to the report, the checks show us that RIM and Motorola Mobility were the strong sellers throughout the 2010 and also in the first quarter of 2011 but now the sales of Apple, HTC and Samsung are being increased in the second quarter.

Additionally, the report stated that after the sales of iPhone 4, Apple is also holding the top position in the top selling tablets list with its iPad 2 at both major US carriers; AT&T and Verizon as iPads are only sold by these two carriers.

Walkley said that iPhone 5 will be releasing on Sprint too, this is a rumor which surfaced last month on The Wall Street Journal. The report said, WSJ had some anonymous sources who revealed this rumor about America’s third largest carrier gaining access to the Apple’s next gen iPhone.

It is also being said in the report that iPhone 3GS which was released in 2009 was still outselling the latest Android devices in May this year and same was the case with Apple’s first gen iPad outselling many Android Tablets.

Canaccord Genuity has raised its price targets for AAPL (Apple) stock from $515 to $545 by keeping in mind the current iPhone 4 sales and the release of next generation smartphone.

Walkley concluded by saying that there is solid demand for iPhone/iPad in the markets and the competing devices are being poorly sold which will drive the iOS ecosystem for a long term with the earnings growth.

Last Windows Mobile-based phone of HTC was HD2 which was released in 2009. It actually had an active hacking community beof which the phone used to do several interesting and remarkable things. It used to run Android, Windows Phone 7 and Ubuntu-Linux too.

Now a new hacked release for the HD2 has been seen which is named as USB Host. USB Host makes the HD2 to play as a host device rather than a client device while connecting to numerous different USB peripherals.

This USB Host has been developed by Dark Forces Team. It has added some new and interesting functions to the out dated and aging HTC HD2 smart phones. Users will be able to connect numerous USB devices like external hard disks, keyboards, mice etc but for that to run, a separate self-powered USB hub is must.

How to Apply USB Host Hack on HTC HD2 “Leo”?

Step 1: create a backup for the data on HTC HD2 device.

Step 2: Download DFT’s LEO USBH .rar file (by clicking HERE extract the contents. 7-zip is the recommended extraction software)

Step 3: Now plug the HD2 to PC. Among the files that were extracted in step 2, transfer the .cab files to the phone. After the transfer is complete, unplug the device.

Step 4: On HD2 go to Start > Programs > File Explorer. Navigate to the folder where you transferred the .cab files using File Explorer.

Step 5: next step is installation of the .cab files. To do this, simply tap on the file and follow the on-screen instructions. Be sure to install CotullaCert.cab and then install DFT_LEO_USBH_WM65.cab.

Step 6: Reset the device. By pressing the End Call key until a menu shows up which will allow tapping on Power Off. You can reboot by pressing the power button.

That’s all about installing. To make use of USB Host, unplug the phone from PC, Programs > USBH Switch, tap on Switch to Host and connect a host device of your choice. Now if you want the device to get back to USB client mode, rest the device. It should be noted that not all USB devices are supported.

The Taiwanese company has filed its complaint of violation against the Cupertino crew only after a month ITC sided with Apple and HTC offered a standard advocacy for the cooperation.

It is neither the first combination brought by HTC against Apple nor it seems to be the last one as both of them have an extensive history of commitment in the competition for smartphones. While complaining, these three patents do not cover only iPhone and iPad but some of the computer line of the company particularly WiFi networking features and the functionality of cell phone and PDA’s combination.
