Google To Discontinue Gmail App For BlackBerry Phones This Month

Its has been reported many times earlier that Google is making significant cuts to services it has deemed outside of its focus and this has been started for a few months from now. Here according to the latest report, Google has made another cut and this might not be like by many users as well. Today, Google announced that on November 22^nd, they are going to end support for the Gmail app for BlackBerry phones. It means that if you are a BlackBerry user and you are currently using the Gmail app on your device, well you will continue to use it indefinitely, but Google will not support it anymore and there will be no updates coming for it as well. Additionally, the Gmail app for BlackBerry devices will also be made unavailable for the downloading. So, if you already does not have the app, make sure that you download it before November 22^nd. RIM Introduces New Operating System For BlackBerry Devices

On Tuesday, BlackBerry maker RIM (Research In Motion) introduced their new operating system in San Francisco. This new operating system is being introduced to take BlackBerry’s lovers back from its rivals, iPhone and Android devices and grab the attention of other users too. BlackBerry has named the new operating system as BBC and it will have features from both the current BlackBerry OS and its previously announced QNX OS for smatphones and tablets.

According to RIM, BBX will be featuring with reliability and security features provided by QNX which RIM acquired in 2010 by purchasing QNX Software Systems. With this new OS, RIM’s software developers will also be able to make new, more advanced and dynamic apps for the latest devices.

The Canadian based company did not provide enough details about the software and also did not mention when they are going to release the device running this operating system but they previously said that QNX running devices will be introduced in 2012.

BBX was announced by RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis on Tuesday in company’s annual developer conference held in San Francisco. Lazaridis also briefly talked about the last week’s service outages from company which resulted in frustration of millions of Blackberry users around the world. He added that company fixed the problem as soon as possible and they are now interrogating the causes and trying to fix it permanently. As you might know that on Monday, Blackberry offered customers free software of more than $100 worth to soothe the customers. RIM also provided some customers with a month of technical support as well.

BlackBerry Service Go Down Around the World!

Research In Motion, already having a lot of troubles, faced a new series of problems today when the free messaging service of their BlackBerry phones was disrupted. According to our reports, the service is still unavailable in many regions around the world. These include Europe, Middle East and Africa. It is suspected that the problem is due to a glitch in BlackBerry’s data center in the Canada.

Many BlackBerry users are reporting that they can only send messages that cost money and free services are completely unavailable. BlackBerry spokesperson said that;

We are working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Many angry BB users have tweeted about their great disappointment due to this issue. Here are some of the tweets by angry BB users;

BlackBerry's Future Uncertain after Stock Hits a New Low!

According to Reuters, On Friday, BlackBerry’s manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM)’s stock value went down 20%, because investors are being afraid that the company might be sold, broken up or its leadership will be changed.

Investors and analysts are worried about company’s future and upcoming challenges, as they have been urging the company’s senior executives to step aside because they were repeatedly getting failures to execute strategies. This criticism expanded and even reached to company’s board of directors.

According to an analyst, Investors are demanding a major change in the company as soon as possible. Company’s management is not trusted by the investors now they really want a change.

RIM is now being run by its co-founder and Mike Lazaridis and co-CEO Jim Balsillie, both of these executives have joined the company a very long time ago. This year, company was planning to release a tablet which was supposed to compete with Apple’s iconic iPad. So, a tablet called PlayBook was launched but the result was disappointing for now. Additionally, RIM is losing the popularity of its iconic smartphone BlackBerry, and has been issuing damaging profit warnings from a long time.

Other than Lazaridis and Balsillie, there are other seven board members but only two of them have background in telecom or tech industry. According to a senior research associate, Paul Hodgson, “The board is culpable. It’s been a little absent in terms of strategy … and in overseeing what management is doing”.

Hodgson added that there has been a lot of pressure and responsibilities put on the shoulders of Lazaridis and Balsillie, who are the owners of more than 5% of company each, and are acting as chief executive and chairman respectively. This case is nothing like Yahoo, there is no way that an independent director can fire CEO. In RIM, all the independent directors have to agree completely to make a major change in the management.

Balsillie and Lazardus were appointed co-chairman at the end of 2010. And this Friday’s call from investors to change the management started on Thursday, when RIM showed a sharp drop in profit in this quarter. It was also expected that RIM will be having lower profits in the future quarters. RIM is also challenged by the growth of its competitors, as Apple’s iPhone and iPad and on the other Android based devices are taking over the tech industry completely.

According to the report, RIM’s shares listed by Nasdaq were 20% down and were costing $23.58 at the Friday closing. This is making RIM more acquirable and private companies are likely to avail this opportunity.

So, it seems like RIM is about to be sold or at least Lazaridis and Balsillie will have to step aside in the near future and will have to let someone else to lead this company, these steps could bring back the trust of investors in the company.

For as long as the mobile phones are being used, people send and receive text messages, later audio and video messages were also introduced. But these all messages were sent through the cell network. Samsung is here with its ChatON messaging service to provide convenience to the users in this space. In past, you have seen other companies trying to develop these kinds of services. Both of these services have similar features but the interfaces are totally different. Blackberry Messenger Service Amplified London Riots!

This is just one of the messages that was sent using the secure Blackberry Messenger Service. Police claims that BBM service played an important role in organizing the Deadly London Riots. They said that all subscribers who used this service to post inflammatory messages will be arrested.

Patrick Spence, managing director regional marketing Research In Motion (RIM), said that company had contacted the Police to assist with the investigation. RIM might also be asked by the court to hand over private messages of its subscribers but it is a move that company is most likely to strongly resist. This might be the reason why company has itself contacted the police so that no legal action is taken.

We have seen how Facebook and Twitter have been used effectively to organize protests and even change regimes. However, these services are not private or encrypted so usually the authorities knows whats going on and prepare in advance. But in UK the BBM Service was used to organize loot and illegal activities. Since the service is encrypted, it was not known to the police what was happening well before time.

Although RIM has agreed to support in the investigation but it has also been claiming in the past that even the company cannot read messages once encrypted. There have also been rising privacy concerns among BB users in UK that their private messages will be handed over to police.

The messages were also amplified when pictures of riots and burning buses were posted on Facebook by people. The death of a UK resident Mark Duggan at the hands of Police sparked the riots but the Facebook Page in the memory of the said victim distanced itself from the riots.

RIM Announces New BlackBerry OS 7 : Details to Come Tomorrow

Research In Motion (RIM), a few hours ago shared news and details of their upcoming BlackBerry OS 7 devices. These seven devices are to be launched before the end of the current year expecting the things will turn around and will provide sufficient bumper time before its conversion to a n0065w QNX platform.

The Tweet asked its followers to check back tomorrow for the details . It didn’t disclose any particulars except that the BlackBerry OS 7 devices are coming soon.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930, BlackBerry Touch 9860 which is also famous by the name of Monza or Monaca are some of the BlackBerry OS 7 devices that we are aware of. Some of these devices were lined up to be released in summer but they have been delayed till September. The main reason of the delay in release is not clear but RIM said that it was somewhat because of efforts in getting the hardware to meet the market expectations and demands.

With a hope that what ever information come tomorrow will be exciting enough to tone down some of the harsh news announced this morning of RIM’s forthcoming layoff of 2,000 workers.

NFC vs Bluetooth

After reading the above text, there is one question that everybody thinks! What is the difference between NFC and Bluetooth? If put simply, there is a clear difference between the two. Using NFC saves the time for searching, waiting and entering codes. It does ‘instant’ bluetooth pairing.
