Techlogix Another Feather in The Cap With a Contract of Oracle

Replacing an in-house legacy system, Techlogix, globally leading IT Services Company and an Oracle Premium Partner, signed off another deployment of Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solution (ECS) at Xavier University this time. Based out of Philippines, Xavier University had been using Enrollment Information System (EIS) earlier for student data management that did not accommodate the data management needs holistically as per which, the solution required should be able to gets encompass all aspects of the students’ life. And that is when Xavier University opted to replace EIS with PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solution.

Techlogix has aggressively expanded its ECS portfolio into the ASEAN market and work is actively underway on sign-offs and go-lives with leading universities in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand. Via Implementation of PeopleSoft ECS, Xavier University is expected to gain efficiencies in its Technological Infrastructure, Business Process Reengineering, Customer Service, Information Flow, Reporting Structure, Cross-Departmental Functioning and Data Security.

AntiSec Hacks into Apple's Database, Captures User's Data!

A group of hackers, calling themselves ‘AntiSec’, posted usernames and passwords of 27 Apple users who had participated in a poll, by hacking into Apple’s Business Intelligence website’s SQL database. The data had been posted by the group on their twitter account. ‘AntiSec’ is a rather newer group that has members who are a part of ‘Anonymous’ as well as the disbanded ‘Lulz Security’.

Fortunately the breach did not involve Apple’s iTunes store database which has 225 million user account having credit card information associated to it. The group gave a clear warning to Apple on twitter but also said that ‘don’t worry we are busy else where’.

Recently, these hacker groups have been doing a lot of damage to many high profile companies. Sony was the latest target when its database was hacked and important credit card data was stolen.

Apple increased its online security after its online forums were breached last year. However it has not seen a large scale damage like that suffered by Sony.

When these managers use the spreadsheet data they don’t even know about its age. These are the basic reasons behind this entire situation.

As this research shows, the consequence for executives is a partial picture of performance.”

The growing number of customers in these industries is causing a huge accumulation of relevant data, which may slow down the performance of systems and affect the customer services, therefore, there is a need to have a system with intelligent storage, lesser human involvement, improved security and rapid processing, he said.

Oracle’s Exadata Database Machine have enabled companies and provided a highly efficient data warehouse with online transactions processing applications and intelligent system in one box, making it the ideal platform for consolidating onto grids or private clouds.

“Customers will not be required to set up separate machines for their data warehousing and OLTP needs as we provide both solutions in one pre-configured machine, hence reducing the cost of operations and improve the efficiency of business,” Farhan added.

The storage server is designed intelligently to store the frequently used data in in-built flash, which makes the data fetching process faster.

Oracle Exadata Database Machine uses InfiniBand technology for network communication, which has enhanced the bandwidth to 40 GB per second which is more than 5 times faster than competing machines.

He said Oracle makes available the latest technologies in Pakistan at the time of their launch in other parts of the world and we have special arrangement for developing market to accommodate their needs of multiple solutions for multiple usages.

Farhan said the branchless banking was being developed to tap a large un-banked population in urban and rural areas and various solutions were in testing phase by mobile phone operators and banks to deploy uninterrupted and secure transactions.

He said there was a huge potential in Pakistan for adopting Oracle products, particularly to make the mobile-banking platforms the most reliable, secure, fast and efficient fast.

He said Oracle’s Exadata Machine comes in four configurations, any of which can be adopted by an organisation to suit their needs and budget.

“We can also serve Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) keeping in mind their capacity of business and affordability to buy new technology,” he said.

Oracle offers different range of products for SMEs at subsidised rates that could be developed and upgraded with increasing footprints of the business, he maintained.

“I see a huge potential for Exadata Machine in Pakistani market because Oracle believes the country is a growing economy and developing nation and the need for data storage and processing will only increase with the passage of time,” Farhan concluded.

NADRA to Register Women Free on International Women’s Day

“NADRA is launching Women’s Registration Drive across the country to achieve the target of 100 percent registration of women by making them aware of importance of registration to get their basic rights.” This was stated in a statement issued here today by Deputy Chairman NADRA, Muhammad Tariq Malik.

“The 100^th Anniversary of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2011 shall be marked by NADRA with the commencement of free registration for the unregistered women in the country through various programs and incentives based schemes,” Tariq Malik.

“With around 51% majority, women are a vital segment of our society and we can’t progress without their unhindered participation in all spheres of national life to earn a respectable place in the international arena,” he added.

“NADRA wants to empower women for their basic rights and this women registration drive is aimed at increasing women registration to have more accurate data to facilitate national planning commission in decision making,” Tariq Malik.

He said that NADRA is making all out efforts to get the adult population in Pakistan, specially women registered in a minimum possible time to facilitate them in getting education, health, employment and other facilities.

Tariq Malik said CNIC is the essential identity document which protects women’s rights. It is evident through the fact that first time in history their rights were safeguarded when in flood hit areas women as family head were given Watan Cards and NADRA issued as many as 121,640 Watan Cards to disburse Rs.2.43bn among woman family heads which never occurred in the world ever.

He said that the registration ratios in some areas have been very low and social norms, illiteracy, poverty and female mobility issues are the major factors besides lack of awareness about the benefits of registration.

He said that approximately 74% women have been registered in the country and Azad Kashmir and Islamabad regions have highest percentage of registered females with 96% and 90% respectively while women registration in FATA and Baluchistan is at the lowest with approximately 44% and 56% women registered in the database.

While giving details about other provinces he said that 79% women in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 76% in Punjab, 70% in Sindh, and 83% in Gilgit-Baltistan have registered themselves in the National Database.

Highlighting the efforts of NADRA to increase women registration, Tariq Malik said that NADRA has dedicated its mobile registration units across the country to encourage women registration.

He further highlighted that NADRA has established dedicated centers for women to enhance women registration throughout the country.

NADRA Asks Afghans to Renew PoR Cards Before Deadline

National Database and Registration Authority, NADRA has urged all the registered Afghans to get their Proof of Registration (PoR) cards renewed before the deadline of February 28. Deputy Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik stated this in a statement issued here today.

NADRA started the process of replacing old PoR cards with new secure cards in September last year which concludes on February 28 this year.

He said since September, 1365000 new PoR cards have been issued through 45 centers across the country. This includes 230,049 cards given to children previously registered on their parents’ cards and 96,608 previously unregistered members of registered families.

In addition, 288,066 newborn babies have also been registered. As part of the same project, almost 638,975 Afghan children under the age of 18 have received their first ever birth certificates.

Malik said registered Afghan those have not yet renewed their PoR cards should approach the nearest registration center till 28^th Feb, 2011, so that UNHCR’s deadline could be met and their data could be updated.

He said PoR card is an important identity document that proves the temporary legal stay of registered Afghans in Pakistan, and is valid until December 31, 2012.

“NADRA is proud to help United Nations High Commissioner for Afghan Refugees to develop biometric refugee database. We would like to offer our expertise in multi-biometric citizen registration services to United Nations High Commissioner for Afghan Refugees anytime and anywhere in the world where there is a refugee crisis.” said Tariq Malik.

He said registered Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan holding PoR cards and not repatriated are eligible to receive the new cards. Afghans must bring their existing PoR cards to the registration centers. If the original card is broken or lost, a photocopy of the PoR card will be acceptable for renewal purpose, to find the data of the applicant exists in the database.
