My Server App By Microsoft – Compatible With Windows 8 And Windows RT

The Microsoft company is renowned as a reliable name for providing the operating system platform for the desktop systems and other portable devices. The company has recently launched the Windows 8 operating system. The Windows Store is the place where the users can find the applications according to the need and requirements. The new application has been added to the Windows store and is named as the My Server.

This application provides the support for the Windows 8 and even the Windows RT. This application allows the users to get to the shared files placed on the Windows Server 2012 Essentials and then they can make changes in those files by either adding, removing or editing data in the files. The applications allow other features and functions to the users like searching the data and locating them to the suitable places provided on the Windows 8 and Windows RT devices.

It is providing the exciting feature of getting the information about the application which was last used and closed by the users. The application plays the role of the administrative tool quite effectively by managing the users, devices and even the notifications and alerts appearing on the server. This allows the users to see their favorite programs from the platform on TV or Movie directly from the Server at great speed. The two way transmission of data is ensured in the application at proper speed.

The My Server application will be a big support for those who want to see the stuff after downloading right from the Server. The Microsoft is stuffing the Application Store with the self developed tools and applications. They are trying to excite and entertain their users with the applications from their own platform rather than leaving the users with others that when they will release stuff and when the users will feel privileged.

Along with the My Server Application, the users are getting other applications from the company. Some are not very user friendly. The users have to get the tools by spending amount on them. However, there are applications that are available free of cost and provide useful data to the users. These applications include News, Weather, Sports, Finance and Travel guides. These applications have easy to handle interfaces and provide them all essential information regarding the issue. The tiles interface of the OS runs in a way that the users can get the further information on moving the screen to the right.

These applications get adjusted in the application bar. The users can use these applications quite easily and comfortably. The users can get more information about the ongoing processes and information behind the particular application. They have to right click on the application icon and it will direct them to the other pages working behind the particular applications. Microsoft Records First Loss in 26 Years

Microsoft has reported a quarterly loss for the first time in its 26 years on the market. The tech giant had warned previously that it would be taking a $6.19 billion write-down its 2007 acquisition of aQuantive, which Microsoft once hoped would help it break into the display market that continues to be dominated by Google.

Total losses for the quarter amounted to $492 million, or $0.06 per share — a far cry from the $5.9 billion in net income, or $0.69 per share, the company reported for the same period a year ago.

Still, it wasn’t all bad: Revenue increased 4% year-over-year to $18.06 billion. That figure might have been higher, if declining PC sales weren’t damaging sales of Microsoft’s Windows operating system. The Windows & Windows Live Division reported a 13% decline in revenue for the fourth quarter and 3% for the full year. The Entertainment and Devices Division saw the biggest growth: Revenue there grew 20% for the fourth quarter and 8% for the full year.

Eric Schmidt Says Apple Is A Threat To Google’s Mobile Search Dominance

As you know Apple’s virtual assistant Siri was released last month and Microsoft’s Bing is also getting very popular since June 2009 and its user base is also increasing. Well, both of these products are proving to be a serious threat to Google.

Today, Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt was talking before a senate subcommittee for investigating Google’s dominance in internet searches and there Schmidt acknowledged that Apple’s newly introduced Siri was a “significant development”, and it is a possible threat that could end Google’s dominance. According to Eric Schmidt:

Apple’s Siri is a significant development–a voice-activated means of accessing answers through iPhones that demonstrates the innovations in search. Google has many strong competitors and we sometimes fail to anticipate the competitive threat posed by new methods of accessing information.

Currently, Google is really dominating the mobile search queries by holding a 97% share and 2/3 of these queries are made from iOS devices which is quite impressive rate. So, it means that Google’s dominance is in real threat by the introduction of Siri in the new iPhone 4S. Currently, Siri is using Google for search tasks but if Apple goes with Bing, you can imagine Google’s dominance is going to be affected so much.

So, overall, it is not too late for Google yet and they can think of a strategy which can save them from Siri and Bing. Whereas we think that it is very much possible that Apple might switch to Bing for its Siri related tasks in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates..Similar Posts:

How To Unlock Windows Phone By Using ChevronWP7

Many Windows Phone developers were anticipating for the release of new ChevronWP7. As the official Chevron team is talking about the launching of the unlock/jailbreak took because it will prove to be a great help for developers and general Windows Phone users.

Step 3: Now you would have to download and install unlock tool on your computer.

Step 4: Launch the unlock tool and now with the help of on-screen instructions you can easily add your device in unlock queue.

Step 5: After your device has been accepted for an unlock from the ChevronWP7 team, that’s it your device will be unlocked.

Homebrew applications, the applications which are currently banned on the Windows Phone and it also creates problem in the getting access which becomes the cause of rejection in the Windows Phone Marketplace but now by the use of Windows Phone 7.x unlocked device means that you can run all of these apps and can install tweaks. Besides this all it also means that you can get experiment with apps without emptying your pocket to pay a fee $99 to become licensed Windows Phone developer but if you wish to publish your apps in the market then there is a need of app hub account.

A new report from WinRumors points out a new statistics report released by Stat Counter yesterday, which shows that Windows 7 has now surpassed the popular Windows XP in the popularity. So, Windows 7 has now become the world’s most popular operating system. According to the report, the latest stats from October 2011 state that Windows 7 has globally overtaken XP and is now capturing 40% of the market share and on the other hand XP has now a market share of 38% worldwide.

Another OS from Microsoft, Windows Vista is staying slow and has only 11% market share worldwide. So, it means that Microsoft has the top three operating systems because Apple’s OSX has a market share of 7% and to complete the top 5 list, Linux comes in last having 0.82% share in OS market around the world. Google Drops Lawsuit Against US Interior Department

Google filed a lawsuit against US Department of the Interior last year. The allegations were that Government body awarded a $59 million cloud computing based contract to Microsoft unfairly and did not conduct any competitive auction. In January this year, Google won an injunction against the department and the contract with Microsoft was put on hold effectively. The Judge for the case, Susan Braden declared recently that there was a certain “justifiable basis” of dispute and it was expected that Google will prevail.

However, last week Google decided to dropout the lawsuit and filed a motion in the US Court of Federal Claims. Google’s attorney filed the motion on Thursday which stated that:

“Based on the defendant’s agreement to update its market research and then conduct a procurement in a manner that will not preclude plaintiffs from fairly competing, plaintiffs respectfully move for dismissal of this action without prejudice,”

On the other hand, Federal lawyers who were defending the case responded by saying that there was no agreement made between the two parties, but still they confirmed that they had no problem to cease litigation by Google. We are still waiting to see that whether there will be an actual deal take place between the two parties.

Samsung Will Pay Royalties For Android Devices To Microsoft

Today, Microsoft announced that they have signed an agreement with Samsung, and according to this agreement Samsung will pay per device royalties to Microsoft for all mobile phones and tablets running on Android OS. Previously, Microsoft has already signed this cross licensing agreement with eight Android partners including Acer, General Dynamics Itronix, Onkyo, Velocity Micro, ViewSonic, Wistron, HTC and now Samsung.

Microsoft announced this agreement in a blog post:

“The Agreement gives both companies greater patent coverage relating to each other’s technologies, and opens the door to a deeper partnership in the development of new phones for the Windows Phone platform”.

You might have observed in the post that, Microsoft said, “Samsung will focus more on Windows Phone in the future”. It seems like Microsoft is very determined to keep Nokia afloat. According to a patent expert, Florian Mueller, “the most important Android related intellectual property deal in its own right”. Miller further added in his Foss Patents blog by saying:

If Samsung truly believed that Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility was going to be helpful to the Android ecosystem at large, it would have waited until that deal is closed before concluding the license agreement with Microsoft. But Samsung probably knows it can’t rely on Google. It decided to address Android’s intellectual property issues on its own.

For now, Samsung owns total 28,000 patents only in United States and more than 100,000 patents around the world are also owned by Samsung. Well, on the other hand, Microsoft never tried to target Apple’s operating system, iOS, which was also possible. So, it seems like Apple, Microsoft and Oracle might be working together to derail Google’s Android off the track by making it pricey for the handset makers and the consumers. So, it is what it is but I don’t what will happen when Microsoft and Samsung will be patent partners and will Microsoft take Samsung’s side in its battles with Apple, as Apple and Samsung are battling over nine lawsuits in the twenty countries around the world.

Before Samsung, last year, HTC signed the patent protection agreement with Microsoft and combined HTC and Samsung are responsible for selling more than half of all Android devices in United States. And both of these companies are now bound to pay royalties to Microsoft. So, only Motorola Mobility is left and Microsoft litigates regularly that Motorola is the only major Android smartphone and tablet manufacture in US without a license. From last year, HTC is paying almost $12.50 per device as a patent royalty to Microsoft. It is very interesting because Microsoft does not get that much revenue from its own operating system, Windows Phone. Following is a paragraph written by Microsoft’s General Counsel Brad Smith and Deputy General counsel, Horacio Gutirrez in the Microsoft’s official blog:

We recognize that some businesses and commentators – Google chief among them – have complained about the potential impact of patents on Android and software innovation. To them, we say this: look at today’s announcement. If industry leaders such as Samsung and HTC can enter into these agreements, doesn’t this provide a clear path forward?

Over 500,000 Users Downloaded Windows 8 Developer Version In Just 24 Hours

As Microsoft released its latest Windows 8’s developer preview to the public, a pretty spectacular reaction has been seen because over 500,000 users have already downloaded the new Windows in just 24 hours. This only proves that Microsoft’s general approach is becoming better and better by day. It is also observed that the Windows 8 has many significant changes, it almost changed the concept of the usual Windows completely. Well, it seems like Microsoft is keeping things up to date.

You might know that this is merely an alpha release of Windows 8, and usually these kinds of releases are only seeded to registered developers. So, with this public release, Microsoft has raised its level up a notch and will definitely attract many potential consumers to itself.

As this Windows 8 preview was released in Microsoft’s BUILD conference, some the people attending the conference commented that, it is after a very long time they get to see such energy and excitement around Microsoft. Surprisingly, those people have given a very great feedback to the overall conference event and particularly the Windows 8. Well, you could have figure it out by just watching the download count which is 500,000 plus and still counting.

When we look at the past, we remember the historic event when Apple released a download only version of OS X Lion from Mac App Store. We saw a million downloads that day, it was the first ever download only OS launch in the history and well, it exceeded the expectations. So, Microsoft’s 500,000 is just half of what its rival Apple achieved. Well, just to remember that this is only an alpha release of Windows 8, on the other hand Apple’s OS X Lion was all complete and final product. So, it can be said that Windows 8’s alpha is most downloaded alpha ever.

This will benefit Microsoft in both ways, as mentioned before, it will attract the potential customers, it will attract developers as well. Obviously developers will be compelled to it because Windows 8 is indeed the worthwhile investment and there is a lot of potential of a wide range of spectacular apps in it. So, it looks like that Windows 8 is in line to be Microsoft’s most popular and well received OS to date.

Apple’s Brand Value Is Now No. 2 In The World

According to the Interim Brand Value Report, released by a London based consulting company, Brand Finance, Apple’s brand value is now worth $39.3 billion and it is now on the 2^nd place in the world. As Google is on the top of the list with $48.3 billion, 9% higher than the last year and Microsoft came in third with $39 billion worth, also 9% higher than last year. But it looks like that Apple is going to overtake soon, as its worth grew 33% in just one year and it overtook big players like Microsoft, IBM, Wal-Mart and General Electric for the first time.

As you can see in the above screenshot of the report, Apple came in 2^nd on the list as of last year Apple was at 6^th position. Well, this concept of making a list of brand values of major companies is specialized by Brand Finance and it is quite intangible marketing concept.

According to the report of Brand Finance, world’s top 100 brands’ value have fallen 2.4% overall since January because of financial crisis and lowering of reputation of major financial institutions like Wells Fargo and Bank of America.

Another firm, named as BrandZ, has put up their own list which shows that Apple is on the top with $153.3 billion as of May and Google is in second place. Well, interestingly, BrandZ’s researches and ratings are based on a survey of over 2 million consumers and on the other hand Brand Finance use a straight forward discounted cash flow technique to conclude the net present value of a company’s brand and associated property.

Windows 8 Developers Build Released [Video]

Microsoft is displaying a Samsung tablet which is running on Windows 8 at BUILD today. Joanna Stern of the Verge did an overview about the user experience and feel of the software. As this Windows version is still unnamed and allegedly named as Windows 8 for the past few months, Microsoft has been releasing little sneak previews about this software.

This Windows 8 Developer Preview was released today by Redmond at the BUILD. You can witness a lot of details on how the entire operating system will work which answers a lot of questions. This new version will have features like app development, the Store, touch navigation, the working of Start Screen with the desktop and many more.

Well, Microsoft debuted their OS on a brand new Samsung tablet having a Core i5 processor under the hood. Following video shows the special hands on preview of the upcoming Windows 8.

DF commented about this OS launch by saying:

“However, fan noise is very noticeable, as is the heat coming out of the top vent, and a fast boot doesn’t excuse the slow wake-up times compared to ARM-based cellphones and tablets.”

Well, all that being said, we are still hoping for something much better from Microsoft. So, the Windows 8 powered tablet devices will hit the markets around the globe in next year will probably give a hard competition Apple’s dominating tablet; iPad.
