Facebook Mobile Specifications – Rumors or Reality

The latest rumors suggest that the HTC and Facebook are still planning to come out with the long rumored Facebook cell phone. It has been a Mark Zuckerberg style to keep everything under thick covers till the last moment. And this time too, even though he has initially denied anything related to the smartphone just for Facebook, the latest tweets and rumors suggest otherwise.

As per today’s tweet @LlabTooFeR suggests that Facebook is finally launching the smartphone with a dedicated Facebook button in collaboration with HTC. And it will be launched sometime in mid-2013.

Whenever Mark is launching a project it always brings about high expectations. It is expected that Facebook will bring something new exotic and a whole new experience. So what new or exciting will be there in the new Facebook mobile? That is yet to be revealed though today some of the specifications have been leaked. The accuracy of these leaks depends on the accuracy of the source. We chose to believe our source and hence we believe in that the specifications exist. The truth will however come in due time.

The Facebook mobile will comprise of 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8930 processor and the operating system is that of Google’s Android 4.1.2. Jelly Bean. So far the specifications revealed include an exotic looking 4.3-inch HD (1280×720) display with a memory of 1 GB RAM and the storage capacity of 16 GB ROM. The has been no mention of the existence of a micro SD card slot for memory for extension and henceforth the customers should not keep their expectations high unless something indicates otherwise.

The 5 MP rear facing camera and a 1.6 MP front facing camera is what makes this even more unique and worth waiting for. LED flash and video recording are also to be included in the specifications released so far. It is suggested that the front facing camera is more for the video calling purposes suggesting that the new cell phone will support the facility.

Other exciting features include Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP support, GPS with A-GPS support and Wi-Fi connectivity. Well, all of this and much more is so far just ‘rumors’, hopefully which will become true soon.

As promised and as the name suggests that the cell phone will have a dedicated Facebook button. This will have to be experienced to comment. But all in all it’s not a bad deal. Facebook is a necessity in today’s world and that too not only for finding old friends or commenting on pictures. People have been using the social network as a platform to publicize their business or their own selves or their profession.

So far the code name has not been officially announced or listed in the HTC’s code list but as per the rumors the code name for the Facebook Mobile has changed to MYST_UL from Opera_UL. I personally hope that the market name is much more enchanting and stylish than the codename.

Whatever the reality, we are expecting Mark Zuckerberg to come out in open with the launch soon enough as the second half of the year is not that far away and with upcoming events, one of the events may hold a surprise from Facebook. Fortune published a latest report today, which states that CEO Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is worried about Google + being a big threat to Facebook and that’s why he looking to build relation with Apple to help Facebook against Google. As you know, with Google’s increasingly getting popular products, Google is now become a common enemy for both Apple and Facebook. But the main question here is that how Apple is going to help Facebook against a social network, I mean that’s not even anywhere related to Apple’s line of work but of course it will be very interesting to see how this all this pans out.

According to the Fortune’s report:

That last point is not lost on Zuckerberg. It has prompted him to seek closer ties with Google’s biggest rival in mobile: Apple. The two companies have held multiple rounds of discussions, according to people with knowledge of the talks. But they have yet to find a compelling way to collaborate, perhaps because their courtship got off to a rocky start. Last year Facebook rebuffed Apple’s attempt to connect Ping, a new social network built around iTunes, with Facebook, purportedly for technical reasons. It was a rare public rebuke for Apple, and Steve Jobs personally called some reporters to voice his displeasure. That Apple chose to bake Twitter, not Facebook, into the most recent version of its mobile operating system has not helped. Still, the two companies continue to talk, knowing full well that an alliance could help them fend off a common enemy.

Previously, it has been reported many times that Facebook is trying to get their app integrated into Apple’s iOS, just like the Twitter app. So, lets see what happens next and we will surely keep you updated about the matter. Facebook Takes Security Privacy Settings To Another Level

Users take Facebook’s privacy very, very serious and obviously it is for good reason. Because, people don’t want other to see things which they think are private. So, they put on privacy settings to avoid a larger group for seeing those things and make them visible for only a select few. Many people on the other hand, forget about the role of the humble password and concentrate on other issues.

Keeping in mind all of that, Facebook lets anyone see their profile by first asking for a unique combination of username, which is an email address, and a password. These things cannot be guess easily. But the issue is that, According to Facebook itself, each and every day, a huge 600,000 account logins are compromised. While the total number of logins carried during a day is 1 billion. According to a report:

Facebook says that “only 0.06 percent of 1 billion logins per day are compromised.” The site is able to precisely count the number of stolen or otherwise compromised logins because it challenges the would-be hackers with additional authentication questions.

Facebook is not worrying about the figures, because they know that only a tiny number of above mentioned 600,000 logins are actually compromised Facebook accounts. But still it is an alarming situation for many of the users.

The facts and figures were published recently by Facebook on its official blog. In the same post, Facebook has also posted that they will be introducing new security features like ‘App Passwords’ and ‘Trusted Friends’ which will help in restoring the passwords. These are not very complex features as if you Facebook accounts get hijacked, the real owner will be able to retrieve the account in a real way. Previously, if that kind of incident happened, the rightful owners did not always get their accounts.

According to Facebook blog, the first feature ‘Trusted Friend” is quite simple. All you need to do is nominate your trusted friends circle. So, if your account has been compromised, your trusted friends will be sent secret codes from Facebook so with their help you will be able to claim back your account.

As easy it is, the new trusted friends feature is also very useful and will help a lot of people in near future to retrieve their accounts. But this also means that you will have to choose your friends very carefully as well.

The second feature introduced by Facebook is named as ‘App Passwords’, it means that you will have to set different unique passwords to use the third party Facebook apps. According to the official blog post, you will have to do following steps to use App Passwords:

Simply go to your Account Settings, then the Security tab, and finally to the App Passwords section. You can generate a password that you won’t need to remember, just enter it along with your email when logging into an application.

Well, we cannot predict how this all will pan out but still Facebook should be appreciated to taking its time to look into the very serious problem of compromised accounts.

New Features Introduced By Facebook & Google + Simultaneously

A report from The Reuters states the Facebook and Google + are being loaded with new features simultaneously. These features were announced in back to back announcements made by both companies yesterday. Well, it is just a start to a new era of competition between these tech giants.

Google’s flagship search engine has been integrated into its 3 month old social network. The membership is now open on the internet. Google has also expanded its “Hangouts” video chat feature for mobile use and broadcasting.

Up to nine people can link and chat with a user on the Hangouts feature? The company said that this feature will be available on camera equipped smart phones. It will be powered by the android software. Soon Google will release the same feature supporting Apple’s iOS devices.

This feature allows the user to hold an online broadcast. The host will be able to record a session and broadcast it for internet access. A member of popular band Will.i.am hosted the first “hangout”

Senior vice president Vic Gundotra said “Hangouts should keep pace with how you socialize in the real world, so today we are launching it on the one device that’s always on your side: your mobile phone.”

On the other hand Facebook said that it is going to introduce new “ticker” on the user’s homepages. These will provide real time notifications regarding what your friends are doing on the network. Service’s main news feed has also been revamped to flag important items for example a new baby announcement for those users who did not log on for a few days. The size of photos appearing in the users news feed has also been increased.

The No.1 social networking site is Facebook, now a days, having over 750 million users. A number of improvements have been made by the company to its service. These seem to match the features which are used by Google+ to compete with its rival.

It was not mentioned that how many people had joined Google +, but it was confirmed that the social network was open to all people instead of invitation-only as it previously had been. It is estimated by analysts that over 25 million people have joined it since its inception.

The Google search engine is also available within the network. Users can search from it and get results from the worldwide internet.

Google’s new social network, which has Facebook CEO as a member, has met skepticism so far. Some people are waiting to see that if Google can maintain the rapid momentum of its first months.

If CEO Larry Page’s own project, Google + which some people might say mimics categorizing of friends like in real life better than Facebook – takes off, this will come to a pivotal moment to its big rival. It is widely expected that Facebook will go public in 2012.

Facebook To Announce Partnership With Hulu

As we reported earlier, Facebook is going to hold F8 conference this week, which is an annual event arranged by Facebook for its developers. Just like previous year, Facebook is planning to introduce some new features and partnership in this event. Previously, it was reported that Facebook will be launching its Music service and partnership with reputable music sites like Rdio and others.

Today, A report from the New York Post states that according to some of their unknown sources, In F8 Facebook is going to announce a partnership with Hulu, a movie and TV streaming video service. Well, there are not many details provided on this partnership but the key point is that there will be a tighter integrations between both services in result of the deal.

As you might remember that, earlier this month, we reported that Hulu was facing financial issues and company was about to be sold. Reuters published a report last week which stated that Hulu might not be sold. According to unnamed sources of the Reuters, it was claimed that Yahoo was bidding for the purchase of Hulu but Hulu has its own issues within the company, which are mainly related to the pertaining of the rights to stream certain TV shows. Yahoo, also backed out of the bidding because of its internal issues, one of them was the removal of its CEO Carol Bartz, earlier this month.

About the new music service, rumored earlier this month, that it would be announced by Facebook at the f8 conference. New rumors claim that Facebook’s service partners will not be allowed to offer any song to purchase or download. So, it is imminent that Facebook, with the help of its partners, mainly, Pandora and Spotify, will open up its web site and offer to stream the music to the users. Facebook To Launch "Facebook Music" Service At F8

Facebook is organizing its annual conference, F8, in two weeks from now. This event is used to lay out the vision for the next year by Facebook. According to many reports, it seems like that Facebook will be unveiling its new Music service at f8 conference. It is also being reported that Facebook is partnering with many music streaming companies like Spotify, MOG, Rdio, etc. It is also rumored that Amazon and maybe even Turntable.fm can also be involved in this new Facebook service. Initially, Facebook Music will feature only listening service but it is assumed that they bigger plans for this project.

Today, a very credible source reported that “scrobbling” will be a key aspect of this music service. This term was made popular by Last.fm initially, which means that when you listen to a song, it automatically gets sent to your profile. As it happens without asking the permission of the user every time, we can assume that there will be a way to turn this feature off. Or there might be some way to selectively share songs will be introduced in Facebook Music, but still, Scrobbling is said to be the key feature of this service.

If you are a Facebook user, then you must know that Facebook’s core feature is its feed and this “post music to profile” feature will not be that surprising at all. As this new music service will make Facebook feed more robust and can also become a prominent and biggest source of feed content.

Apparently, Facebook Music will also offer content resolution between all the music partners who are involved in this project. It means that, if you are a Rdio user, and put up a song on your profile, a MOG user can also access the full song by just a sing click on your profile. So, it is essential that you sign up for at least one of the major music service, Facebook is launching, to access most of the music content.

Facebook App 3.5 Released for iPhone!

You can only blame yourself if you give “social media expert” admin rights to the page on facebook.

Once your page is hijacked you can do nothing about it and facebook does not help you that easily. You have to spend more money and time and you will have to start it again.

Facebook should do something about it. Original page admins should not be removed by the other page admins of that particular page.

Facebook is adding new privacy features to its network and these features will make it easier for users to control who see their information and they will have more control over the pictures they want to appear in or not. Facebook, world’s No. 1 social networking service, is issuing new privacy settings to the users.

Facebook has almost 750 million users, and they all will be able to quickly access and modify their privacy whenever they want to share any information on their profile or network. It will end the long process of clicking through various specialized sections of the site.

For example, if someone uploads a picture, and then want to tag their friends in that picture, Facebook will first ask their friends through a notification whether they approve to be tagged or not before the picture is linked to their personal profiles. Before this feature, users were sent a notification that they are tagged in a photo and after that they could un-tag themselves from those photos.

Privacy is the main feature of this social networking site and it’s been a challenge because of the advertising. So, Facebook has to make sure that it balances the commercial interests of people by sharing more of their lives and on the other hand user’s sensitivities about having the privacy control over their personal data.

Last year, simplified privacy settings were added to the site by Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg. In these setting users were required to tinker with more than 150 different options at one time, this caused many complaints from users and privacy advocates.

Facebook’s privacy hackles were increased recently when facial recognition feature was used in it, with this feature, people can be recognized automatically in the pictures.

After the recent launch of Google Inc’s service Google + and other rivals, Facebook had to improve its privacy setting to face its significant competitors. Google + gave its user a feature which was not that better in Facebook, that you can organize your friends and contacts into different groups. With this feature Google + took an edge over the Facebook’s privacy controls.

Another new feature added in the privacy settings of Facebook is the drop down menu, which allows user to specify the intended persons for each message or photograph they want to share this specification can be altered after the post too.

These new Facebook privacy controls have some features which can cause some privacy concerns too; users can tag anyone in their pictures, whether they are friends or not, of course the un-friend person can approve or disapprove being tagged to that photo and also have a blocking option in their profile to block a specific person from tagging them in their photos.

According to Justin Brookman, Director of the Consumer Privacy Project, There may be some problems in the start but people will get used to these features soon.
