It is weird that Apple released the iOS 5.0.1 again when it was meant to fix the battery issues faced by the iPhone 4S. There were very little security holes in the iOS 5.0 and with the release of the latest iOS Apple has somehow managed to provide hacker and modders a way to port the famous Siri.
People are not aware of a lot of problems when an OS is initially released. Apparently the iOS 5.0.1 also fixes the ‘No SIM Card Installed’ error that is displayed on iPhone 4S quite often. The build number 9A406 has been issued to those users who are facing the ‘No SIM Card Installed’ error. Since this specific problem is faced by a few users I think releasing the iOS 5.0.1 was a wise choice instead of making of everyone wait for the iOS 5.1.
In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:
- “Invalid SIM” or “No SIM Card installed” alert appears intermittently.
- Status bar displays “No Service” or “Searching” in a location with good network coverage.
Apple then follows with a solution to the problem. It involves the backing up and restoring the device and that is done using the iTunes. Apparently the build number is pulled down to the 9A406. After all is said and done the user can restore their respective content and everything should be fine. Following are the steps you can follow to do the above:
1. Back up your user content and settings using iTunes or iCloud.
2. Restore your iPhone 4S using iTunes.
3. After the process is complete, restore your user content and settings from your backup.
4. To confirm that you’ve successfully restored, verify that the version is now iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) in Settings > General > About.
What needs to be mentioned here is that the users have mixed reviews about the new release and most of them are still complaining of the battery issues. We are uncertain on the release date of the iOS 5.1 but let’s hope that that update brings significant improvements.
