Apple to Enter the TV Market with New iMac

By Saad Riaz Qazi on December 8, 2011

Apple has literally conquered the cell phone and tablet market and now it’s time for them to turn their attention to the TV market. Steve Jobs seemed to think that the company was held back from completely diving into the market and it seems that he was able to crack it. We don’t really know what it means but we can venture guesses.

Brian Blair, an analyst at Wedge Partners, said that the next generation of Apple iMac will be available sometime during mid-2012 and would probably include some functionality of a television. Steve Jobs was able to describe this new TV to be an “integrated television set that would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud”

Direct Quote Brian Blair:

“We think this makes sense because while we typically think about the newest TV’s hanging on the wall in large form factors, Apple could effectively start with what they already have on the manufacturing line and slowly push their offering from 27 inches and scale up from there to 32 inches and then move on to the 42, 50 and 55 inch market. In short, we believe the initial Apple TV is their iMac computer that can function as a TV, over the iCloud platform.”

Apple initially entered the TV market with the Apple TV device. There are a number of considerations before you could possibly switch to the Apple latest TV device. First of we’ll talk about size.

Size:

According to reports, Apple is supposedly going to release television sets that will range from 27 inches to 32 inches diagonally. Well, this is not going to go well with people who prefer either smaller or larger televisions. Smaller TVs could be replaced with large screen televisions but if you’re used to large screen TVs then I don’t think you will switch to a smaller size.

Connectivity:

These days most of you will have multiple gadgets installed with your television set such as the TiVo, Xbox or PlayStation, Surround Sound speakers, Wii. Now, if this new iMac cum Television does not support all of these things then connecting and disconnecting it will become quite a problem.

If Apple is thinking of penetrating the TV market with this sort of a device I would wait for a couple of years before actually considering them.

Choice is yours.
