Rumors never end and we’ve witnessed that over and over again. Interestingly, the rumors spread even more when it comes to Apple products. DigiTimes has confirmed from sources that the Cupertino Company is looking to release a smaller version of the iPad sometime late in the years 2012. DigiTimes is an online newspaper based in Taiwan and it covers the supply side of the computer and electronics industry.
Following is an extract from the original report:
Apple is likely to launch a 7.85-inch iPad prior to the fourth quarter of 2012 in addition to a new iPad scheduled to be released at the end of the first quarter, according to sources in the supply chain.
Three things to consider here are that Apple will release a 7.85-inch iPad, it will be released in the late 2012 (few months after Apple announces the iPad 3) and that the smaller iPad is supposed to meet market demand.
Following is what Steve Jobs said in October 2010:
“7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad,” said Jobs, adding that competing manufacturers were struggling to meet the price point of the iPad, which starts at $500.
“These are among the reasons that the current crop of 7-inch tablets are going to be DOA — dead on arrival,” Jobs said.
Do you think that Tim Cook will go against the beliefs of Steve Jobs? We think not. Steve Jobs was the foundation of the entire company and I don’t think the new CEO will do anything to disrupt the very base of the company. Why would there be a smaller iPad anyway? The tablets are supposed to competing with netbooks in a way and they can’t possibly afford to make it smaller. That’s my take on this.
DigiTimes claims that the iPad 3 and the smaller iPad will be released in the same year. We’re not buying that either; remember how two iPhones were to release this year?
If you want to believe the rumors go ahead but there really is no reason to come up with a small tablet. Let us know if you think it will work.
