21 Countries Welcome the Availability of the iPhone 4S

By Saad Riaz Qazi on December 17, 2011

iPhone 4S is now available in 21 more countries worldwide so all of you who have been waiting to get your hand on one and haven’t been able to because of the unavailability, rejoice. The prices however are a spectacle to look it.

iPhone 4S is now available in the online stores and through carriers in the following countries: Bahrain, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

Brazil is facing the steepest prices for the iPhone 4S. The reason is that there is a huge amount of tax that was placed on the devices which is why the premium on the cell phone shot up.

Direct Quote:

Pricing for the iPhone 4S through Apple’s Brazilian online store starts at the equivalent of $1410 for the 16 GB model and moves up to $1628 for the 32 GB model and $1845 for the 64 GB model.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this news. Here’s a little comparison. In the United States the iPhone 4S 16G is for $649 while $749 and $849 is for 32GB and 64GB respectively. Our Brazilian brothers have to pay almost more than the double of what our American friends pay. Hopefully, the decision to manufacture some of Apple’s inventory in Brazil will benefit the Brazilian people.

In Russia, MTC is the official carrier partner of Apple. iPhone 4S in Russia ranges from $1131 to $1350. Still a significant difference but it’s all good when you compare it to Brazil.  It is weird that Brazil is taking the biggest hit when it comes to prices especially when you consider that Apple has a factory in Brazil for manufacturing the iPhones. The material might be expensive there or the utilities might be really expensive. We are not sure about this as of now. But one thing is for certain, if you have to buy an iPhone 4S and you’re living in Brazil you might want to lose an arm or two, maybe a leg. Otherwise not a lot of you will be able to afford it.
