PTCL Clarify Its Position on Latif Khosa Letter to PM

By Jamil Arif on September 7, 2010

Mr. Advisor without confirming the de facto position had given completely erroneous and misleading information to their own version of history that is contrary to the facts. The administration has already announced the pay raise for all employees who received a 30% wage increase in current base salary, with a 20% bonus based on punctuality, conduct and performance of normal activities in the coming one year to be paid with retrospective effect from Ist. July 2010. Not be out of place to mention here that in this era of competition, no organization can survive without providing the performance and culture of PTCL being a customer oriented company, strives to introduce this culture.

An idea is presented to totally misleading to say that PTCL is challenging the PTCL Act by not giving the increase. It clarifies that all provisions of the laws have been thoroughly evaluated before any decision and joined in the true spirit. Management never intended to violate any laws or rights of our employees. We are doing our best to provide maximum facilitation to our employees and, while competing in a highly competitive environment and try to remain profitable. It is not confined to higher wages, management also announced Eid bonus to its employees, as well as declaring a placement scheme in the next higher level based on twelve years of service in a certain scale. All these steps that demonstrate its determination of management regarding the welfare and wellbeing of its employees and its sincere and active approach to provide maximum benefits. PTCL is employees friendly company which had, in the past, given its employees maximum raises.

After privatization, PTCL is no longer a government run organization enjoys the privileges of subsidies and other financial benefits. In fact, it is a corporate entity that is responsible for 35% corporate tax plus a 19% GST. PTCL has to fight against it with a lot of competitors in an environment of fierce, implacable. So it makes sense that the increase in salary and bonuses of workers should be tied to performance instead of being bullied and arm-twisted by some trade union leaders calling itself with nothing but their own personal interests in promoting all this trouble.

The company affairs are being managed in a professional manner as possible. PTCL is managed by a proper system of government including the board of directors and a highly qualified team of competent and experienced management. PTCL using is the world’s best enterprise resource planning system – SAP – to manage its processes and procedures, including procurement and project management. This system sets up strict controls and balances to counter any systemic malfunction or procedural errors as well as intention. Management insists that complete, to ensure transparency in all its operations, procurement, projects and acquisitions.

Finally, PTCL would like to inform readers that the Honorable Court of Appeals in Lahore and Rawalpindi and banks, and said the NIRC protests and strikes are illegal and have led the unions to cease all such activities. Despite the illegal and unjustified strikes, the PTCL management has kept the door open for dialogue. However, PTCL reaffirms its position that its doors are open to any negotiations with union leaders, however legitimate, must first call the protesters outside the strike illegal and unlawful. It should also be clear that in this hour of trial, when we have to deal with the worst catastrophe in our history as illegal strike that has paralyzed the entire country telecommunications system ignores the interests of the nation. We need to stand with each other and only think for the best interest of our country and economy.
