Three mobile operators have been issued Mobile Audio (content provision) Service Licenses, which would enable the mobile phone subscribers to entertain audio service on their mobile phone.

The decision was taken in a meeting of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) held on Friday, they furthermore reviewed the progress on performance of its decisions taken in the previous meeting and expressed satisfaction.

The companies that have received licenses are M/S Cellvision (Mobilink), M/S Jafcom (Telenor) and M/S Evamp and Sanga (Ufone).

The meeting was also attended by President, Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) Syed Sarfraz Shah, on the request of PEMRA.

PEMRA expressed grave concerns over excessive advertisements during TV programmes and glorification of crime and terrorism on TV channels, asking the PBA Chairman to keep in mind interests of the public at large.

PEMRA has also granted permission to ‘Express English’ to run a current affair based programme with `Voice of America’ without using VoA’s logo. The programme will be up-linked from Pakistan. ‘Express English’ will pay Rs 5 million to PEMRA as permission fee.

PEMRA, however, expressed its displeasure on airing of a `Voice of America’ programme titled `Khabron Se Aagey’ on ‘Geo Television’ without permission of PEMRA, which is mandatory under section 20 (i) of PEMRA Act 2007.

The meeting also passed PEMRA (Council of Complaints) Rules 2010. The Council of Complaints has been established in the Federal and each provincial capital to cater public complaints regarding broadcasting and distribution services.

People can lodge their complaints round the clock on telephone number 111-736-111 and/or through mail.
