Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira Thursday asked civil society, corporate sector and philanthropists to come forward and help government in its relief and rehabilitation effort for victims of recent land-slide in Attabad, Hunza. The Minister, who is also Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan was talking to Vice President Corporate Affairs of Telenor, Aamir Ibrahim.
He called on the Minister here to present a cheque of Rs. 2 million for the affectees of land-slide in Attabad, Hunza.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said the land-slide occurred in a remote area where relief and rescue effort through normal land route was very difficult. However, the government provided relief in the area through air and land routes.
The Minister said relief goods were airlifted from Islamabad and other areas for the stranded people of the area, adding that the government also announced a relief package to help them rehabilitate as early as possible.
He appreciated the contribution of Telenor Pakistan and said that other segments of the society should also come forward to help the people of the area in this difficult time as there is still a need to augment the relief efforts.
Aamir Ibrahim said Telenor Pakistan has stood by its Pakistani brethren at all times of need and has always contributed towards the relief efforts, financially and through its network and human resource.
He said being the first and one of the largest mobile operators in the Gilgit-Baltistan, the area holds special significance for them, which is demonstrated through their constant engagement in cultural, economic and social activities for the region.
He expressed the resolve to continue playing a role in the socio-economic development of the country.
Telenor Pakistan’s officials, Qazi Muhammad Idris, Affan Haider and Areej Aurangzeb Khan were also present on the occasion.
