PTA efforts to check illegal SIMs proving successful

The efforts made by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to solve the problem of incorrect data of mobile uses and unauthorized SIMs has brought fruitful results. The PTA Punjab Zone Director Kamran Khan Gandapur told media during his surprise visit to customers service centres (CSCs) of mobile phone operators including Mobilink, Warid, Telenor, Ufone and Zong here Saturday.

The Zonal Director said, since the launch of this service PTA has received on its system, more than 2.96 million requests of mobile subscribers, seeking their SIM information data through SMS and about 860,000 through web-link available at PTA web site.

To a question, he said that in view of problems faced by the mobile subscribers, selected franchises had also been allowed to receive complaints regarding SIM data from mobile users in case SIMs are issued without the knowledge of subscriber. For the convenience of mobile phone subscribers of smaller cities and far-flung areas, PTA has also allowed the selected franchises to receive the complaints regarding SIM data.The Franchises will handover copy of undertaking to the subscriber and shall not be allowed to correct/amend the data, as this shall only be done by mobile company, he concluded.

Gandapur interacted with mobile users present at the CSCs for the correction of their SIMs data and inquired about the efficacy of new system of 668 introduced by the PTA from the customers.

Mobile customers apprised the PTA team about their issues regarding correction of SIMs data. The Zonal Director also inquired the CSCs staff about the procedures they were following to support the customers.

Senior representatives of concerned mobile operators were also present at their respective CSCs.

The Zonal Director, however, directed the regional heads of all mobile phone operators to improve internal mechanism of their CSCs to facilitate the subscribers. “Best use of resources should be put in place so as to facilitate the customers for correction of data within short time,” he added.
