Google is set to launch a nationwide billboard ad campaign to promote its free open-source suite of office applications, named Google Docs. The new campaign is meant to take direct aim against Microsoft’s popular Office Suite.
To compete with Google Docs, Microsoft recently announced a free simplified version of its Office Suite available as a free cloud application. Additionally, Microsoft and Yahoo just inked a merger deal, that would use Microsoft’s search engine Bing on all Yahoo sites, with Yahoo carrying the load of selling search advertising services for both technology giants.
Microsoft and Yahoo are hoping their merger will result in capturing some of the lucrative search engine revenue that Google controls. Google dominates with more than 78 percent of the search engine market.
Google’s billboard ads are planned to run for a month in the Cities of Boston, New York, San Francisco and Chicago. The advertising message will change on the billboard ads each workday, lending an element of surprise and excitement to bored commuters.
The battle between lines between Google and Microsoft-Yahoo are now drawn.
